I started running TAB boards in East Surrey and West Sussex (North Downs) in 2012. My original motivation for starting the TAB business was a desire to work with local businesses and to become a respected member of the local business community. Having worked with both small and large business over many years helping to deliver owner and shareholder value, I have tremendous respect for what they do. Before starting my TAB boards I have pursued a highly successful career in broadcasting and new media for the past 25 years with a track record of developing start-up and SME businesses through strategic leadership and business transformation.
During that time I observed that most business owners could benefit from some really good third party advice. I had seen the value that Boards of Directors provide to larger businesses and believed that smaller businesses would also benefit substantially from objective advice.
While consultants, family members and employees can provide a useful sounding board, only business owners can truly appreciate what other business owners are going through.
When I learned about TAB Boards and the model of establishing Business Owner Advisory Boards, I thought this would be a great service for private business owners. I also believe that TAB provides a model where I could leverage the experience that I have accumulated over my career and the passion that I have for small businesses, to make a real difference in the companies and the lives of business owners. It felt like the perfect fit. Now that I have been operating TAB Boards for a few years, I can’t imagine doing anything else.
I am now running 3 local boards with over 20 members in the “North Downs” area. Our members include the full spectrum of business areas, including media, construction, manufacturing, distribution and professional services. Our board members have a combined 300 years of experience running businesses. They have bonded with each other at a very profound level and have derived tremendous value from being part of a TAB Board.
